Hello, I am Richard Carrigan. I am an English Language Instructor based near Chattanooga in Ringgold, Georgia. My professional mission is to help international students and workers build fluency and confidence in their English reading, writing, listening, and speaking skills.

My Background

I hold a Master of Science in Education with a concentration in TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages). I have dedicated my career to providing high-quality, accessible English education. Through my private coaching practice and my educational YouTube channel (@RichardCarriganTeacher), I design content that addresses the real challenges international learners face when they move to the United States.

My background focuses on bridging the gap between basic English knowledge and the advanced communication skills required in American universities and modern workplaces. I understand the unique cultural and academic expectations placed on international students, and I work to make their transition as smooth as possible.

What I Offer

I provide personalized language coaching through flexible online and live lessons. My programs are designed to provide Real Solutions for Real Issues, offering both private and semi-private instruction tailored to the learner’s specific goals.

My core educational programs include:

  • Academic English Preparation: I prepare students for American higher education system. I teach essential academic skills, such as how to format research papers in APA style, integrate quotes seamlessly using the “Quote Sandwich” method, and find credible research sources. My goal is to promote academic integrity while helping students develop a consistent and confident writing voice.
  • Civics and U.S. Citizenship Coaching: I guide learners through the complex process of preparing for the US Citizenship interview. I help students master the necessary 128 Civics questions while exploring deeper cultural topics, such as the history of the American Civil War and the true meaning of the American Dream.
  • English for Busy People: I offer practical, real-world English solutions for international workers. These flexible lessons help professionals communicate more effectively, improve their grammar (such as fixing comma splices and subject-verb agreement), and build the workplace confidence they need to advance their careers.

My Approach to Education

As educators, we know that language learning is about much more than just memorizing grammar rules. It is about understanding the audience, the culture, and the context. My teaching philosophy is based on creating a tailored, encouraging environment where students can achieve their unique goals on their own schedule.
